A Little Won’t Hurt (And Other Fairy Tales)
You’re enjoying a perfectly good moment, snack in hand, vibes intact, when someone casually says:
“Oh come on… a little won’t hurt!”
I know they usually mean well. Most people aren’t trying to be rude, they’re trying to include you. But here’s the thing:
Gluten doesn’t do “a little.”
For folks with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity, even small amounts can still cause big problems. It’s not a preference like “no onions, please.” It’s protection.
If gluten were glitter, “a little” is still enough to show up everywhere and ruin your day.
Cute, calm comebacks you can borrow
If you want to keep it light while still holding your boundary, try:
- “I wish! My body treats gluten like an emergency meeting.”
- “Even crumbs can make me sick, so I’m going to pass, but thank you!”
- “I’m on the ‘no crumbs, no chaos’ plan.”

You don’t owe anyone a bite, an explanation, or a debate.
A simple “No thanks, I’m good” is a complete sentence, and choosing your health is always a win.
